Here are our recommendations for the places we prefer when we want to eat fast and delicious at various times of the day in Ilisia.
Souvlaki Pita is a nice and affordable place to eat. We recommend their pitas, fries and tzatziki. You can try Greek beers as drinks.
A nice place to eat Kalamaki (Shish) and Gyros. They serve their portions with french fries, tomatoes, onions and pita bread, they are filling and delicious.
This is a fast food kiosk located in a caravan and in an additional store across the street. They serve delicious and affordable hot dogs and nuggets. The service is quick and they are usually open until early morning.
Breakfast
Our recommendations for our favorite places for breakfast, snacks and coffee in Ilisia.
Just few steps away when you walk out of our building, you will see this cute cafe with some French aura. As well as it is a nice spot just for a drink, they serve delicious omelette for breakfast, and their menu includes some other basic dishes. We especially recommend you to try their homemade bars, which are so delicious.
The place is basically an all-day cafe frequented mostly by locals although its is next to some large hotels. We can recommend it both for breakfast and lunch\dinner besides just as a cafe. Do not expect a wide selection of food, but their pizzas taste just like in a pizza restaurant and you may order a glass of Greek wine next to it.
In addition to various ready-made sandwiches, you can choose the ingredients you want and have a sandwich made. Although it is still the nearest place to home to get your custom sandwich, we must add the taste isn't that great anymore as it used to be.
They make Koulouri varieties, a type of Greek bread, and serve them both plain and with options such as cheese and salami. We recommend you to try Thessaloniki's both fluffy and crispy options.
Located in Ilisia, this popular French-inspired bakery is known for its own production sourdough breads, delicious croissants, and fresh pastries.
Restaurants
Our recommendations from the restaurants we have experienced in Ilisia.
A nice restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine. It has a simple, peaceful and pleasant atmosphere with outside seating.
This is by far our favorite restaurant recently. Located on a peaceful corner of a Kolonaki street, it has a very nice and chic setting, good service, reasonable prices and instead of a fixed menu they offer daily dishes, that you may choose from the display.
This small restaurant just at the corner where a busy street and a tranquil park meet, delivers an unexpectedly pleasant dining experience. The menu is short, full of unique versions of Greek dishes made from ingredients mostly sourced from farm of the family. We recommend to sit at one of the tables lined on the street next to the park, so to escape from the noise of the busy street.
Coffee and Sweets
Our recommendations of patisseries and cafes we have experienced in Ilisia.
This is just another branch of chain bakery, which you may come across Athens and Greece. They have a wide selection of food from desserts to sandwiches, from ice cream to breads and other savories. Although the tastes are usually not something special, it is still good to take note of this place, as they have many options and their working hours are long. It is especially convenient to get something quick to eat, just before taking the subway back to the airport.
It's a nice café for having coffee, snacks, and light meals. The upper floor of the interior has a pleasant atmosphere. People also go there to remote work.
Not far away from our home, this natural ice cream store has a selection of ice creams (with milk) and sorbets of about 5-6 different sorts of both everyday.
Be aware that we only recommend Terkenlis part of this store. They have delicious tsoureki covered with chocolate in two different flavors, as well as some other sweets, but the main thing to try here is tsoureki.
As for the Grigoris, it is a chain bakery across Greece, but unfortunately we cannot recommend their products even when there are no other options.
A spacious place that stands out with its fresh coffee beans, various snacks, and modern atmosphere, ideal especially for morning coffees.
A cute stopover with a warm atmosphere nestled in the neighborhood; offering delicious bakery products, fresh sandwiches, and coffee varieties.
Bars
If you enjoy rock music, you might like this bar with a somewhat medieval atmosphere, mostly frequented by locals, offering a pleasant environment.
The bar next to our house has a beautiful atmosphere and a calm ambiance.
